TE#1403  Honoring My Mother
Entered by:
 Sharon Tucker
Grass Roots Quilt Studio, Blaine, WA

Dimensions:  76" x 95"
Machine: Longarm
Batting: Hobbs Wool
Thread: Superior Threads, So Fine on top, Bottom Line on the backQuilters Statement: The story behind this quilt.  My Mom passed away in a hospice Dec. 5, 2006 and to honor her and help raise monies for the hospice, I promised my father that I would make and donate a quilt for the annual Treasures of Christmas fundraiser in November.  I had some of my favorite quilt books with me at my Dads during  Christmas and I said, "Pick one and I'll make it."  As he flipped through Simple Traditions by Kim Diehl, he saw the name, Remembering Grandma.  Decision made!  A lot has happened in my life being a full time quilter to a full time office employee, and have won the battle with breast cancer last year.  Through all of this I've been working on this quilt.  I finally finished it in Dec. 2009 and it will be donated right after this show.

TE#1405  Joined By A Thread
Entered, Owned, Quilted by:
 Marian Drain, Ukiah, CA
Created by: Muriel Woods-Paes

Dimensions:  42" x 43"
Machine: Longarm
Batting: Quilter's Dream Blend and Wool
Thread: Superior, King Tut, So Fine & Signature 20 wt. Cotton
Quilters Statement: Muriel and Marian are sisters.  We desired the quilt to have unity with the design radiating from the central motif, having enough quilting that it would appear as a whole cloth and not as pieced blocks.  The Australian fabric was purchased in California, then sent to the Netherlands where it was hand pieced and appliquéd.  Then it returned to California for quilting.  After hanging in California for a time, it will once again return to the Netherlands.  One quilt, two sisters, "Joined by a Thread".

Entered by:
 Toni Nicholes
Toni's Quilt Studio, Sammamish, WA

Dimensions:  62.5" x 62.5"
Machine: Longarm
Batting: Wool
Thread: Not submitted
Quilters Statement: My entry for the Creativity Challenge is titled Midnight Beauty.  I chose its name for the black-as-night silk fabric and the beauty of God's creation displayed in the coordinating fabrics.  This creativity challenge gave me a chance to push myself, learn new techniques, work with new fabrics and to challenge my own perceptions of my abilities.  I enjoyed the process of taking a traditional western quilt pattern and selecting fabrics, which included hand-dyed, silk blend, and Japanese-inspired American fabrics, to create an Asian work of art.  Midnight Beauty showcases both freehand and template quilting designs, machine appliqué, trapunto and Broderie Perse.  The bold Asian design of the quilt fabrics was my inspiration to use
